Keeping in mind that God is telling the story and Moses is writing it all down. I'm sure it was to make us see how God has had to deal with our turning away from Him.

In Gen.6:2 it says "the daughters of men". Men here is #582 enowah = mortal.

In Gen.6:4 it says "mighty men", "men of renown" using the same word for mortal.

In Gen.11:5 at the tower of Babel it uses the same word again.

2Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

That means that the Bible can and will interpret itself. All bible truth must have the support from other texts.
