I was raised a Christian and went through years of catechism to learn about the bible and Jesus. After having read the bible and gone to church and listened to a billion sermons about the bible, I just cannot understand why it has to be so complicated. I have read some posts in this forum and have heard countless others speak on what a good Christian has to do to win God’s favor and to understand God. You should read the bible frontward to backwards and backwards to frontward some Christians say. One must study the bible constantly and even go so far as learning Greek or Aramaic in order to interpret the language of the bible. One must attend church every Sunday. You must be saved in order to be saved from God’s wrath. I could go on and on.
I’m sorry, but I just cannot believe and really don’t want to believe that God would purposely make religion so difficult to understand. It seems to me that the more likely scenario is that we humans are the ones to blame. We have taken what should be a simple relationship and have complicated it to the point of insanity. Somehow, we just cannot relate to God on a one to one level. He is our creator and we are his creation. It truly is as simple as the parent/child relationship with unconditional love.
God, just as any parent, will love me through the good times and the bad. God will stand by me and protect me when I stray and when I am close. God will assist me in overcoming my faults/fears and praise me for my gifts/courage. God was with me when I was brought into this world and he will be with me when I leave this world.
In my mind, it is as simple as this. Why should we complicate this relationship and distance ourselves from what is the closest and most loving relationship any of us will ever have? The answer is simple, we shouldn’t.
