I feel that we cannot NOT be connected with Source (God, Spirit, etc.) we just forget that we are connected. And awareness or intention (or "conversion" etc.) brings back the awareness of being connected. If we truly believe in the Oneness of everything, rather than separation or fragmentation, we realize we are NEVER separated from Source, we just feel like we are.

This has been my experience.....
