i have been a heavy snorer for years. as i got older, i gained weight and it got worse to the point i had to sleep in another room or my wife could not sleep. i had heard about the different things doctors could do. so i went to a internal medicine doctor. some forms of snoring can be corrected surgically, others can not. mine was diagnosed as sleep apnea. as i go into the deeper rythms of sleep, my jaw actually relaxes and slides across the airway, causing snoring. in my case, i was actually stopping breathing. the body would knee itself awake enough to make me move my mouth and i would breath again for a short while. this can not be surgically corrected. what i ended up with was buying a cpap machine that i wear every night it. it works. wearing it on the nose forces you to keep you mouth closed so you jaw will not relax into the closed position. this is a low volume ambient air breathing pump. i found out that many people die from sleep apnea and i feel like i have just extended my life. and the nice thing, i can now get a good rested sleep and sleep with my wife. to purchase the cpap machine does require a prescription from a doctor.
