the current UK government is pushing consumerism in medicine but this leads to all sorts of problems. DTC advertising is essentially trying to convince people they need a pill in some instances. it bypasses the doctor-patient relationship. patients with somatisation disorder shop around until they find a doctor who "takes them seriously".
