I am starting on my fourth week using the lamp and I am actually starting to see an improvement in my acne- I hardly get any breakouts anymore and my skin is less oily than usual. I'm hoping it's not just the warm weather that's attributing to this (cross fingers), but a permanent change for the better. When I started to use the lamp, my skin became extremely dry and the brown spots from the left over acne seemed to pop out even more. I just recently found out that it was because I was washing with an anti-bacterial cleanser at night in addition to the 2.5% benzoyl peroxide lotion I was using made my skin very irritated. I stopped the anti-bac cleanser and I am just using the benzoyl peroxide with a light benzoyl peroxide cleanser. What a difference that made! My skin is still a little bit dry, but no more brown spots and no more zits (at least for the last 5 days!). They say you should use the machine for at least 15 minutes a day for about 8-12 weeks so that the natural process triggered by the light from the lamp kills those propionibacterium acnes (p acnes) for good (or brings it down to a manageable level). I've been using it for 15 minutes in the morning and about 25 minutes at night (try not to miss a session) and except for the irritation early on, I am very pleased with the results. I have cystic acne and very large pores so that when I break out I break out all over the place (with very large pus filled zits). But ever since I started using the red/blue light no big zits at all (just very little tiny ones now and then- most likely from the pomade I use on my hair). And the area around my nose which was always really oily no matter what I did is now very dry and very smooth (again, I really really hope it's not the weather!). I'll keep you posted on my progress in the next couple of weeks. As far as the price is concerned, it does seem a little expensive. I got a pretty good deal from EGeneral Medical on the internet for about $195 including shipping and handling (link below). I'm really hoping it will pay for itself in the future so I don't have to keep paying for useless and expensive medications that promise to work but don't. Cross them fingers for me!
