Yes, that reminds me about two problem solving barriers that psychologists note..

confirmation bias: the tendency to search for information that confirms one's preconceptions.

a similar one

fixation: the inability to see a problem from a new persepective; an impediment to problem solving


Knowing terms like these can help a person recognize this behavior in themselves and others, opening their eyes to different views.
