i don't know Res. the important thing this case study highlights is that stones somehow made it to the colon without a fistula... ie, they passed through the bile ducts, no? so we both agree that its possible. i suppose your position is that only small stones can do this? most of the stones i flushed were quite small, so the case study would seem to support the theory that small stones can be flushed out.

Yes it is one case study, just like the lancet article, no? and, my point in posting it was that, i seriously doubt that the issue of whether stones can pass, and if so, how large of stones, has ever been studied. if so, i would love to read such a study. that most cases of gallstone ileus are due to a fistula is an assumption, perhaps based on certain facts, but all assumptions should be thoroughly tested. I doubt this one has been explored much.
