Another thing to think about is, why did they split up. How likely is it that the same thing could happen to you?
Once a person has one divorce it is said they are more likely to have another, rather than work things out.

My wife was only separated when I met her. Her ex was in prison. He had roughed her up, cheated on her and said her child wasn't his and wouldn't take care of her. He got busted for cutting some guy in a fight.

I think in the old days she wouldn't have needed a divorce because he would have been stoned to death. I don't know how many years he got. He signed the papers we needed signed and we never heard from him again.
