I was posting to 17163 about 1 Peter 4:8 ("...love covers a multitude of sins"). It is not just tolerance, but a matter of hospitality that we consciously decide not to pick on each other, NO MATTER HOW MUCH AUTHORITY, even responsibilty, scripture gives us to do so (1 Corinthians 6:12 and 10:23 All is lawful for me, but not all is good for me, which means that our spiritual growth is largely dependent on our ability to be hospitable towards others. Christianity is not about the law, it's about the heart (Romans 2:29 "...real circumcision is a matter of the heart" INWARD).
If you decide in your heart to 'go to bat' for your brethren and explain to Jesus that you didn't feel that it would have been best if you had reproved your brethren because of the risk of alienating your brethren and that you rather let The Lord teach your brother the error of his way (when and IF The Lord chooses to, the matter might not be so important that The Lord will reprove your brother at all), then The Lord will notice that, not only are you so trusting of Him and His lovingkindness that you will go to bat for your brethren, but that you love your brethren enough to risk a harsh word from The Lord. What's the worst that could happen? There's no need to fear (1 John 4:18). Whether The Lord 'gives you a dirty look' or not, He will be impressed that you have learned well from The Holy Spirit.
