You are very right.

What else comes to my mind is when God created the human race He created Adam, and then He created "a helpmeet" NOT "a few helpmeets".

You'll also notice when in genesis it talks about man leaving his parents and cleaving to his spouse:

Genesis 2:24
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

You will notice that the verse states that the man shall cleave unto HIS WIFE (not wives) you will notice that they will be one flesh, that doesn't only mean sexually but also means spiritually. You cannot do that with more than one spouse.

That is what comes to my mind immediately on the subject, I may respond more later.
