I see what you mean about the soul tie definition. I don't believe that we ever join souls with another person.

But, any sinful relationship or damaging relationship can have a damaging affect on our souls causing a "spiritual" scarring that only God can heal.

Sometimes even though the "sin" is renounced by asking forgiveness and carrying forward in obedience the scar of the sin still remains. And in situations like that only through a process of purification will we be freed from that scar. Sometimes it may be as simple as seeking God's Wisdom and healing. Sometimes it can be more difficult and actually need God to take us through the past memory of the sin and showing exactly where we went wrong and how we could have done different by being obedient to Him. (please forgive me if I haven't worded that correctly)

Then of course there is breaking bondage and curses that may still be present after coming to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. They won't be broken by any ritual of course but they will be broken by special prayer time and seeking God's help and wisdom through His Word.
