I am perfectly happy to agree with you about Genaral dentist not always cleaning the wound, it comes from a patient/insurance problem were they insist that general dentist should do everything, I know for a fact that if you had a specific surgey needed any where else on your body you would be sent to a surgen who specializes in the diagnosed area. If the patients were as insistant to go to an oral surgen than many of your argument would be for not as even OS who have been through medical school and done there internship as MD and then returned for there dental surgery degree have the same problems with there patients as each tooth has a purpose, and to have them removed for anyreason causes problems. So dont base your facts on Genaral Dentist doing surgery as they arn't (in my mind)qualifyed to do suth things, but patient requests, inturance demands, and yes Dr $ greed alowes them to do it.
I also would like to say I am not a fan of root canals and would prefer to see no one with them, once again the RC treatment is a "patch" on somthing already broken (or infected) But if it were my choice (and it has been) then i would prefere to take the 20 to 50% sucess rate gamble with a actual endodontist to see if i can keep a tooth for a longer period of time. The inevitabe is extraction. I just find it interesting that in todays modern medicine the teeth are the only part of the body that infection promotes thoughts of extraction.
