Two of the greatest R&R songs of our time I believe are already considered classics and both I consider quinessential r&r ballads! The first song is written and recorded by the great BOB DYLAN and later recorded and sung by the late great JIMI HENDRIX the song '' ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER'' . Dylans lyrics are metaphorical genious, his imagery and use of the architypes is profound and captures the essence of our times. The guitar of HENDRIX adds to this genious and the song becomes greater than the sum of its parts! The number two spot is challanging and could contain a long list of contenders, but my controversial choice would have to be PROCOL HAREMS' '' A WHITER SHADE OF PALE'' This songs haunting imagery and classical organ obbligato and descending bass line make this song a strong contender and my choice for all time number two favorite. These two songs are my choice, what do you think? what would be your choices? GROG
