This is from Andy's second book *Hair Test Interpretation* on page 239.
"Based on the high reported adverse reaction rate, the inaccurate summaries of some journal papers given in the sales literature, and the lack of consideration for heat transfer and volatile control in most designs it is my opinion infrared saunas are never appropriate for detoxification."
Here is also a post from somebody who spoke with Andy, plus it has comments from others that give a mixed opinion of these saunas.

Andy's experience is with people who are trying to detoxify themselves of mercury and to a lesser extent other heavy metals. It is possible that infrared may be more problematic for them than it is for individuals who use these saunas for other reasons.
And of course, many people have had positive results with these saunas.
IMO, I think people should at bare minimum try an infrared sauna before purchasing one. It would also be advisable to try a regular sauna for comparison.
I will add that, again IMO, some healing modalities tend to get a little complex and maybe overly mystified. When discussing mercury detoxification with people, I tell them that one of the best things they can do is look for opportunities to sweat. I don't tell them it has to be with saunas, Epsom Salt baths, or whatever. The opportunities are all around most of us, at least during the warmer months. I'd personally rather sunbathe than be in a sauna.
The other healing aspect of saunas is the heat itself, which can be particularly helpful for the large number of people who have somewhat low body temperatures. Again, there are lots of opportunities for pushing up your body temperature.
So at least, weigh all of your options.
I am not qualified to speak of the effects of infrared on the body, positive or negative. So I'll leave it at that.
Hope this was of some help.
