" Firstly, I welcome your input as any cause for reflection is bound to expose weaknesses in ones preconceptions. However, a reductionist argument involving progressively minute detail is to some degree futile. A prudent mind would admit that this is beyond our capability. Every succeeding generation finds a new level of reductionism and I would remind you of the simple fact that for all his wisdom, man cannot even duplicate a simple blade of grass."
I think that there must be some evdence somewhere to support the notion of food derived enzymes functioning in human, and I presume other mammals, digestion. It appears that no one knows of this evidence or basis of the theory. We are talking about basic physiology on this topic and while all physiology text books describe the secretion of digestive enzymes and what triggers the secretion of these enzymes not a single one mentions this connection with food derived enzymes or how it works. No one here seems able to provide the most rudimentary explaination of this process. In order for the system to work I have pointed out a few mechanisms which must present...namely a mechanism for the identification of these enzymes and the transmission of this information to the organs involved in the production of the digestive enzymes. I really wish someone would provide a link to the research on which this is based instead of trying to change the subject constantly...makes one wonder why they aren't expalining this process in more detail.
Your comments on "todays textbooks tomorrows floklore" might apply here. The original comments were allegedly made sometime in the 1950"s from the information I have gathered....I hope someone posts the citation for the original comments!! No new information or supporting evidence seems to be forthcoming so you might be right the concept might be folklore.
