Perhaps trace amounts of Nickel, Chromium, etc, are giving the sprouts a boost?

Actually, I think that there is more here than meets the eye. Being of a scientific background should cause one to not only question, but also to investigate. It is pseudo-science to merely deride something based on what you were taught. All phenomena should be approached with an open mind.
