Hiya!

I do know a bit about fasting, just couldn't list EVERYthing I know about in the title of the forum! I was so shocked when the forum was offered I didn't even think of what to call it, the name was Spirit's idea so I left it at that. Probably holistic healing would have been a better title. :)

What kind of fast you do is best decided by age, prior cleansing and body type. If you've not done ANY kind of cleansing such as colonics, P&B shakes, then you're better off doing a juice fast with P&B shakes and tea, not just water.

If you've already thoroughly cleansed your colon and are a Kapha Dosha, then a Water Fast may be just the thing.

It also depends on your goals. If you have arthritis, a long fast is recommended. If you just want to rest your body, or cleanse your organs, three to five days is really all you need. It's a good idea to fast one day out of the month.

Vata types have to be very careful with fasts and rarely need a pure water fast.

Exercise, except for light walking, is never recommended during a fast. Exercise means more toxins to eliminate (lactic acid) and when fasting, the body needs to go into healing mode, not building mode. If you feel really tired and weak you should stop.

the part that most people get REALLY wrong is breaking the fast. How you break the fast is just as important as the fast itself. If you pig out on the wrong thing, you'll be praying to the porcelain god! ;)

So let me know whihc Dosha you are, your past cleansing history, goals, ailments, and I'll be able to recommend a fast for you. :)
