Brandy,

I have both of the books you mentioned, "You Are All Sanpaku" and "Zen Macrobiotics". My first copy of "Zen Macrobiotics" was a first edition from Japan that was falling apart and I kept in a plastic bag. Nevertheless, a wonderfully interesting book that I referred to often. I then purchased the familiar 1965 edition of "Zen Macrobiotics", black with orange sun on the cover. The 1995 edition recovers many of George Ohsawa's simple macrobiotic recipes from the original mimeographed manuscript, so I purchased the restored 1995 edition. To go along with that I bought the out-of-print "Zen Cookery" which Ohsawa refers to often in "Zen Macrobiotics" (i.e. "refer to Zen Cookery for this recipe"). I make the simplest and plainest bread and other staples from Ohsawa's recipes. Ohsawa is original macrobiotics, not watered down. It is powerful.

I think a copy of "Zen Macrobiotics" is indispensable for anyone intent on practicing macrobiotics. On the other hand, although I own "You Are All Sanpaku" I have seldom looked at it after I first purchased it.

For becoming familiar with the roots of macrobiotics and an essence of the real thing, George Ohsawa and any of his books are an education in themselves and highly recommended.
