I have been following this thread with some interest. I wasn’t going to say anything, but since my name came up…

I can’t/won’t speak for my friend Dro, he is, and we all know it, more than capable of doing that for himself, but it is important to remember that my chosen path does not clame to be “The-be-all-and-end-all” of recovery. One of these days, I am going to mark down when, where and how often the Big Book says so.

We have no monopoly on recovery, that is what Bill W. said.

But back to this question of a yeast infection being at the root of alcoholism. I think it is a fascinating idea. I love hearing someone state that they are sober and happy. After all, isn’t that what we all want? And if reducing or eliminating the infection can stop those damn cravings, that is good news.

I have a buddy who thinks that we alcoholics are all hypoglycemic, we can’t manufacture the needed feel good chemicals in our minds, so we turn to alcohol to fill the need. He as well may be on to something. With the guys I work with, I emphize good diet. Lots of whole grains, dark leafy vegetables, no processed white bread.

I think diet is important, but I don’t think that it alone would have fixed me.

Like so many other stories of recovery, I always ask the question, how is it working a month or a year from now? How is it working at 2:clock in the morning when there isn’t anybody to impress, or to kid or to sell? When it is just me and the ceiling. The ceiling I sleep under will not be lied to. It hung over me and mocked my pain for years. And even today, I can’t bulls### it at all.

It knows the truth.

I am happy for you guys, anything is better than active alcoholism, Stick around and let us know that your plan has staying power.

Richard
