hi jack...
there comes a point in an alcoholics drinking career that they might have what is called a "moment of clarity"... that doesn't mean "lip service"... a "moment of clarity" is when one has that flash of "aha"... a realization that one is going to die if one continues to drink... it might be better called "a moment of truth"... but... until this moment arrives the alcoholic will be defensive of their lust for alcohol... he might even attend an AA meeting... but usually he is insincere and is there to find fault... to shoot the program full of holes so that he can continue to drink and say... "see i told you AA wouldn't work"...

alcoholics today do not have to die... the program of alcoholics anonymous gives us a way out... years before AA was born alcoholics weren't so fortunate... it took an act of devine providence to snap them away from their alcoholic doom... in todays world with the help of AA an alcoholic that is willing/desperate enough to do whatever it takes can recover... not many are that willing... most continue to defend their desire to drink right up to the bitter end... it happens all the time... two of my best friends/drinking buddies are dead because they loved booze more than anything else in the life... no one can force another do anything against their will... so...you might say it is an inside job... those of us that are in recovery are miracles indeed...
it all has to start with that first step...
#1... "surrender"...
"we must surrender to win"...
"a paradox" ...
"AA" is full of "paradoxes"...
all it takes to be a member is a desire to stop drinking...
lol...
;-)
