Greetings!  I am relatively new to the board (haven’t been here in a year or so) and relatively new to getting really serious about improving health naturally…the way it should be.  I am looking for information concerning the best Vit C, recommended doses and how and when to take for myself but more specifically my fiancé, Fred.

Fred’s History:

54 years young, 5’8”, 190 LBS

Diabetic but not insulin dependent

Hypertensive

Fighting hardening of the arteries (currently cholesterol levels are good, however)

Just suffered (two weeks ago) two mini-strokes (TIAs) accompanied by a grand mal seizure (so very blessed there was no perm. debilitating damage) brought on by dangerous blood pressure and glucose levels.  Seizure was a symptom of the TIA.  He is not epileptic. The doctors, of course, have put him on BP and glucose regulation meds and temp pharma potassium because his level was very low.

Otherwise great health except for aches and pains from 20+ years of playing rugby

Diet: He hasn’t been paying close attention to his diet or exercise the last six months; however, we have changed that with a consumption of lots of greens and other low carb veggies, fish, nuts, whole grains in the AM, sea salt (no table salt), etc.  This is easy for him, as he prefers healthy foods, but he fell into the evils of the easy availability of processed foods during many months of business travel.  He’s learned his lesson, to say the least.

Specific foods: we have upped consumption of kale and dark greens, fresh garlic, cucumbers, celery (4 stalks per day), spinach, broccoli, sunflower seeds and cashews.  All fruits, except lemons, grapefruit and a few berries, send his glucose through the roof.

I plan to get a Super Green powder formula in the next couple of days (2X/day), and I have him taking 1 TBSP ACV 3X/day with reverse osmosis water.  We have also upped his water intake.

Exercise: started walking about a mile a day again and plans to start a resistance-training regime next week to start rebuilding muscles for better metabolism/glucose regulation.

Mission:
Get his glucose and BP back in normal range; clean out those arteries and eventually get him OFF of those poisons (meds)!

To the end:
I have read many threads in this forum about Vit C: whole foods v synthetic, buffering v not buffering, when to take v when not to take, how much to take v how much not to take, sodium / calcium / mag ascorbates v ascorbic acid, etc.

Thank you for all the information shared in this forum, but I must admit that I, unfortunately, remain a bit confused on the type of Vit C.  This is what I have gathered from the forum info so far:

A ‘Decent’ Dosage:

6,000 mg / day taken 2,000 mg / dose in the morning, afternoon and evening after meals (for better absorption)

Questions:

1. Considering Fred’s circumstances, he should stay away from the calcium and the sodium ascorbate forms, yes?

2. Does whole food Vit C come in crystal form or just tablet?

3. Does the ‘recommended’ dosage amount for whole food Vit C change from the ‘recommended’ dosage for the ascorbate or ascorbic acid forms?

4. Any recommended brand/supplier of whole food Vit C?  We are currently in Denver, CO (still on business), so the chances of being able to find whole food Vit C at a local health food store should be good.

Your Vit C…as well as any other…assistance and direction is greatly appreciated!! Many thanks in advance!

dena

(Disclaimer: Although I presented Fred's medical history above, I am not seeking 'medical' advice, rather natural health, Vit advice, and I fully understand the purpose of this board.  )
