I am a "Stooge" for no one. I've taken C for ten years, 500 mg daily. And it's done wonders for me, at least in terms of the prevention of illness. Like I said, I haven't had a virus, cold, any infection to speak of for all of these years. I contribute that to vitamin C.
But I also know that anything beyond that is unlikely to do much of anything for the body. C is a water soluable vitamin-WATER SOLUABLE. That should tell you enough.
There are certainly alternatives to my opinion-
One thing a person could do is to take C with each meal for "Hands on" protection throughout the day-something like 150-200mg per meal, or something on that order.
All of the studies I've read about C conclude the following-it doesn't last in the system beyond 24 hours; 250-300 mg is the most that can be absorbed in any one day; most physicians applaud Vitamin C, my own doc has been thrilled with my health history/infection, and he too has become a believer in C. Yet, most docs will also tell you that anything beyond 1g of this per day can cause renal damage. Vitamin C's an acid, just as it says-acid prevents infection, but too much of it will cause damage to the system-ANY ACID. The PH scale is there for a reason in science.
#2)You can take the fat soluable form of Vitamin C, that which I personally am considering. That's a different game altogether, however, and so if I do that, I will cut my daily intake in half.
If some of you guys want to deny the merits of every health study ever conducted by the U of M, Cleveland Clinic, Mayo and Harvard U, be my guest. I personally will continue to find merit in such studies, than take what I learn from that and blend it in with how I feel about the issue personally.
Medicine tells us that a normal, healthy person requires only 60 mg of Vitamin C daily. I don't believe that. Medicine tells us that those with chronic illness and smokers need to take 200-300mg of it per day. I don't believe that.
What I believe is that everybody should take 300 mg of C per day. The 500 mg capsule is the closest thing to it, which has worked wonders for me.
Bottomline is that if I had terminal cancer, perhaps I'd try your 15 gram dose of this stuff. But as a healthy person, I wouldn't dream of it. I'd like to have my kidneys working ten years from now, afterall.
