My long streak of radiant health came to an end about two weeks ago,
when I caught a cold. I couldn't believe it! I woke up Monday morning
with congestion in my lungs and
head. There was absolutely no warning. I felt fine when I went to
bed, and stuffed up when I awoke.

What to do? I began taking lots of
vitamin C every few hours. Normally,
I take 14 grams a day. On this day,
I took 50 grams. I didn't reach
bowel tolerance until the next morning. And during that Monday,
the cold symptoms intensified.

On Tuesday, I took 40 more grams of
C. That night was the worst. I had
a slight fever and chills. I felt
very discouraged; very gloomy. Why
hadn't my normal daily dosage of
vitamin C, killed off this virus?

I don't know the answer to that question. But on Wednesday, I
felt much better. The congestion
began disappearing. There was no more fever or chills. In short order, I was my healthy self again.

In retrospect, I think the large
doses of vitamin C probably limited
this illness to a couple of days.
Many of my neighbors have been
sick for weeks with something similar.

I look on this cold as a blessing
instead of a minor-curse. It reminded me that anyone can get sick; that no one is bullet-proof
when it ocmes to illness. I feel much more empathetic towards people
who are sick all the time; not with
colds, but with major illnesses and
degenerative conditions. This cold
was a wake-up call that I needed to
experience.

I will continue doing what I've been
doing to maintain my health. That
includes large daily doses of vitamin C. I hope I can start a new
streak of radiant health that will
take me deep into the winter of my
lifetime.

Happy Easter to all my friends on the vitamin C forum!

Blessings,

Owen
