I am still itching about that Genetically-Modified-Organisms and sodium ascorbate issue.
And here is why. I started using one company's sodium ascorbate that state on the label, not GMO. Fine.
Then I called local big supplement company, Now Foods and asked them about their sodium ascorbate. I was surprised nutritionist was rather forthcoming. He said most 99% of ascorbate is made from corn and majority of corn has genetically altered DNA. So... Ok, that was the answer.
Also from the talking to Now foods and the other company (don't wann sound like promoter of that company- that's don't give the name)I learned one more thing. That Genetically-Modified-Organisms issue can also mean three things:
a) starting material, corn, can be GM, but the final product was nearly absolutely free of Genetically-Modified-Organisms so that testing equipment could not detect any of it; b)
during the manufacturing process itself some GMO's can be added despite gmo-free starting corn- that's why I was advised to ask other manufacturers who say that their sodium ascorbate is GMO free,- wheather GMO-free means you started with GMO free corn, or your final product is GMO-free (meaning equipment cannot detect);
c)or, GMO- free means both, starting material is GMO-free AND final product is GMO-free.
One more thing. The same company, that puts GMO-free label on sodium ascorbate don't put GMO-free on their "Essential electrolytes" product; damn it, here it says that ascorbic acid is corn-free.
Owen, could you call Bronson labs once more and press them a bit more wheather their product both, started with GMO-free corn AND finished product is GMO-free; I was advised that some companies can play games with this issue. Naturally, why not to put GMO-free stamp on the label since companies know this would only encourage customers to buy.
Anyway, you get the idea why I am still nervous. What's your take on all that?
