Hi,

As you mentioned that you guys have contracted HSV2 I'm assuming you mean both of you have Genital Herpes and I drop my 2 cents considering that.

Answers to your questions:

1. No, but you want to avoid sex as it's not generally a pleasant thing to do when either of you is having an ouotbreak. It's irritating.

2. No one would get re-infected in the same site of infection. Once a person contracts the virus, it stays in their body for ever and re-infection doesn't happen. But there is a possibility of infecting OTHER parts of the body in the first few months as it takes your body 3-4 months to develop anti bodies gainst the virus. Once you have the anti bodies against it then the chance of transferring the virus to other parts of the body will be close to zero. So if you guys guys are infected on your genitals, no re-infection can happen on your genitals.

3. I'm not sure about this one!!! You're talking about the second outbreak BUT on a different site? mouth area? She needs to go see a doctor to swab the sores on her mouth because usually HSV2 doesn't go to the mouth and if it is HSV2 then she must have contracted on her genitals and mouth from the same encounter maybe??? which is really rare for HSV2 to go from genitals to mouth as it doesn't like mouth area. So it might not even be Herpes and if it is, it has nothing to do with her genitals. Has she ever had a cold sore before? Maybe she has HSV1(responsible herpes virus for cold sores) on her mouth?

4. Herpes operates differently on different people. She should eat healthy, exercise and get enough sleep and for other options maybe other people have some advice for you.

5. About the once a day treatment: It's called suppressive therapy and you have 3 options Valtrex, Famvir and Acyclovir. Valtrex is the only one that you actually take once a day. Valtrex and Famvir are expensive if you guys don't have insurance. Acyclovir needs to be taken more than once a day. But if you're both infected then one of the main purposes of suppressive therapy would be useless for you guys which is reducing the the risk of transmission to an un-infected partner. But it's up to you, if the outbreaks are frequent and so annoying then she can consider it to prevent the outbreaks and that's just about her preference.
