Try bringing a bottle of water to the bathroom with you, and pouring that over yourself while you're urinating--similar to the shower, having water dilute the urine will reduce the pain.

When I was first diagnosed, my doctor gave me a prescription for a lidocaine cream. It did help numb the sores a bit, so that might be something to look into.
