It is dangerous the first few months, and the first few days in particular, because of the amount of mercury in the body. On the first few days after Amalgam removal, there will be tiny pieces of Amalgam that were swallowed during the dental operation. These will remain in the system until they are cleared out through normal elimination. If in that time, you were to take any type of chelation agent, particularly any oral chelation agent, it would pull mercury off of the Amalgam pieces and carry it into the body. If you were to take alpha lipoic acid, it could mobilize that mercury into the brain.
Your brother is a very special case in a delicate condition. My advice only counts for so much here given my lack of knowledge of multiple sclerosis, his medications and symptoms and so forth. What I'm trying to do is give you a general idea of what would be a responsible chelation protocol. But there may be workarounds that others know about on the Yahoo groups. I would definitely post there and see what kind of response you get. I don't know if there is a good MS group on Yahoo or not, but I suspect that there is.
