I thought the same thing after I posted that message. I managed the packing shed and when we did boxes, we did separate the 'maters in order of their ripeness. The field owner took his produce to Siloam Springs in Benton County where the tomatoes were shipped all over the mid south. Sadly, the enterprise did not last long, in the late 80's a blight spread all over the county and a good vine ripened 'mater became a rarity for several years. We were told to use Epsom Salt and powdered milk in the hole when transplanting seedlings. Apparently the added minerals kept the blight at bay. I did this a few years ago when I could still garden and it helped a lot. Yes, there is something special about Arkansas tomatoes. I also prefer the home grown peaches from Clarksville in Johnson County, and the native watermelons from around Hope (Bill Clinton's home town).
