Indeed, killing/consuming is a part of animal “life,” but I do not view myself as an animal; I do not view myself as being particularly human either, and this degenerate hunter-gatherer, superior-than-thou state of existence is not one I subscribe to. As you so rightly said, it comes down to respecting life, not fearing the consequences for taking it.
And yes, the notion of taking what is not yours is similarly devoid of conscience and morality; the heinous crime of lesser entities.
It is interesting that you mentioned cows… Only two nights ago did I watch a report on the local news channel while with my mother. This report explained that close to a hundred cows were to be “put-down” due to their owner’s imprisonment. The claim was that it was only humane, although none of the local villagers, or indeed the middle/upper-class news reporters seemed to care so very much as to take it upon themselves to provide the cows with substantial foods. This is very much the same as the shrugging of shoulders at the death of a few bees: total lack of responsibility caused by overwhelming apathy, prompted by a vastly superior notion of one’s own existence.
Ha, this conversation has wandered off at a tangent…not entirely surprising, though…;)
