I'll make no comment on MH's theories of the digestive system.

Hydrochloric acid serves a very important function besides assisting in the digestive process. It also kills harmful pathogens such as bacteria and parasites. Even people who eat very healthy diets need hydrochloric acid for proper digestion, breakdown of nutrients and pathogenic protection.

I'm sorry you don't have any friends nearby. I was kidding when I asked the question because of the description you gave of the people you encounter. It sounded like the folks I used to work with in long-term care facilities. I had no idea that there was truth in my comment, and hope that I didn't hurt your feelings.
