hmm. I had a moldy basement once--old stones, damp, and a funny central area that was unpaved, and just stones, and also a reek of old oil.
I covered it (the 'open' area) with rock salt and charcoal,
and I think straight baking soda...and the basement became lovely--
like full of negative ions.
