I don't know what your profession or knowledge base it, but bipolar disorder has become a diagnosis de jour...much like ADD and borderline personality disorder. I have worked with patients that are truly bipolar, but I have also had clients who were diagnosed as bipolar simply because they had been chronically depressed and then had a period of time when they felt 'normal'...felt good, slept less, had more energy...but all within the normal range of functioning. Bipolar disorder is also being diagnosed when someone actually has borderline personality disorder...which is often actually a case of long-term PTSD.
Without a doubt, psychiatry and psycology are NOT exact sciences. And the abrupt withdrawal of a cocktail of psychotropics would make ANYONE bonkers!!!
