Hi Owen :)

She used to boil purplish colored pine rosin, then she would put the meat from the balsam pear without the seeds into the hot water as soon as she took it off the stove and let steep,

then she would fold a cloth in several layers and saturate it with the broth

then put the cloth on a plate and mash the balsan pear on the wet cloth to make the poultice

the poultice was then applied to the burn or wound with a wet piece of cloth from the broth and wrapped

8 to 10 hours is all that is needed for swelling and soreness to disappear

I jumped off of a fence and stuck a rusty nail all the way through my foot, through the arch and sticking out the top of my foot.

She put the poultice on both sides overnight. By the next day, there was no soreness, swelling or redness, and the holes completely closed up tight. I ran and played that day as if nothing had happened. And healed without any scars.

She used to take me to the outer edges of pine forest where the trees are exposed to sunshine, to hunt for purplish balls of pine resin that seeped out of the pine bark. some were purplish with red streaks.

My guess is the woodpeckers made the holes causing the pine rosin to seep out and turn purplish over time.

She told me the sun draws undesirable elements out of the rosin and the rains wash away the elements that was drawn to the surface of the rosin. It is purified when the rosin finally turns a purplish color.

(I know there are 2 types of pine salts, but I don't know if the action of the hot sun draws them out to the surface for the rain to wash away or not...She didn't tell me what the undesirable elements were, that she said was drawn out and washed away)

She took a small piece and crushed it between her teeth until it was a powder, then she opened her mouth to show me, then she swallowed it, saying it gives every part of the body energy and purifies.
