Dear Minnie,
First of all, congratulations for the wise
and wonderful changes you've made in your
eating regimen and your lifestyle. I sense
that you are on the verge of becoming very
healthy. It's just a matter of time.
Stick with the raw vegan diet for the foreseeable future. Your back is healing,
the weight is dropping away, and you can now
sleep part-time on your back. By Easter,
Minnie, you'll be sleeping right through the
night on your back, and you'll wake up
refreshed and invigorated. It's all coming
together for you.
I'm delighted to hear that you're eating
wheatgrass and Superfood, as well as bouncing
on your rebounder. Also, that you do internal
cleanses regularly, and had the amalgam
fillings removed from your mouth. Bravo!
You are definitely on the Healing Path.
I'm going to outline some suggestions about
how to get a good night's sleep. Then I'll
expand on each suggestion. Here they are:
1) Consider sleeping on a magnetic mattress
pad. I've slept on one for the last three years, and I wouldn't be without it.
2) You can buy an inexpensive CD (under $20.00)
and listen to it for 15 minutes before
you go to bed. The CD will take you down
into Delta Zone, the brainwave pattern you
enter when you normally fall into deep sleep.
3) Buy a sleep mask and wear it to bed, so
that NO light enters your eyes. I use my
sleep mask just about every night.
4) Give your body some extra melatonin each
night, as well as other herbs like chamomile,
that help induce safe and restful sleep.
Chances are very good, Minnie, that you won't
need to take it for more than 2 months.
Okay, let's expand on each of these suggestions. First, the magnetic mattress pad.
I've been sleeping on a magnetic mattress pad
made by Advantage Magnetics for more than 3
years. I bought it because I had injured my
shoulder in a weight-lifting accident. Within
the first year, my frozen shoulder healed
itself. I give the mattress pad part of the
credit. But I also noticed that I was now
enjoying deep and peaceful sleep every night.
It turns out that magnetic mattress pads
increase the blood flow in your body by
300 percent. NOT BLOOD PRESSURE, but blood
flow. That means, Minnie, that your brain,
as well as all your other organs, are receiving three times as many oxygen-enriched
blood cells, as they do when you're awake.
This helps promote deep sleep, and it promotes
healing in every part of your body.
There are lots of magnetic mattress pads out
there. Nikken is considered one of the best.
It's expensive. I researched all the available
pads, and chose Advantage. You can go to their
website, and do some reading:
www,advantagemagnetics.com
Or call 1-888-682-0114, and ask them to send
you some printed information. You can use the pad
for 30 days, and return it if you don't like
it.
My second suggestion is that you buy a CD
which will specifically take your brain waves
down into Delta Zone. Let me explain that, Minnie.
Our brains generate electrical patterns known
as brainwaves. The four distinct patterns are
Beta, Alpha, Theta, & Delta. Each of these
electrical wave patterns change the way that
you perceive the world, as well as the manner
in which you process information. They're
measured in hertz (Hz) or cycles per second.
Beta brainwaves are the daily norm for most
people (13 - 34 Hz). Anxiety and stress are
most likely to occur in the high Beta range.
Alpha brainwaves (8 - 12 Hz) occur when we
are relaxed and calm. Theta (4 - 7 Hz) is a
deeply relaxed and creative state in which
the focus is inward. Most of history's greatest artists produced their masterpieces
while under the stimulus of Theta brainwaves.
The final state is Delta (1.5 - 3 Hz). Each of us experiences the Delta state during the
90 minutes or so of dreamless sleep which
occurs soon after you go to bed. Our bodies do
their best healing during that 90 minute
stretch of deep sleep. The brain increases its
production of DHEA, melatonin, and Human Growth Hormone, and decreases its levels of
cortisol, an age-accelerating hormone which
is produced by the adrenal glands. It's very
important to be in bed most nights by 10 p.m.,
so you can get that 90 minutes of healing,
dreamless sleep before midnight.
If you've had a stressful day, or watched a
lot of TV right before bedtime, your brain is
probably in the high Beta range. Instead of
tossing and turning, until your brain slows
down of its own accord, I suggest you buy a
CD, which is designed to take your brainwaves
down into Delta zone within 15 minutes or so.
I use Holosync for one hour every morning to
do precisely that: take my brain down into
Delta zone. So I know that brainwave CDs
do, in fact, work. Holosync is expensive, but
there are very inexpensive CD's available that
will take you into Delta Zone. Two of them are
sold by the same company, Tools For Wellness,
and cost only $19.95 each. The first is called
Harmonic Sleep CD, and was developed by Doctor
Paul Swingle. The second is Delta Sleep System, by Doctor Jeffrey Thompson, a well known sleep research specialist. The Tools
For Wellness Website is:
http://www.toolsforwellness.com
They have a truly fascinating print catalog,
which is more entertaining than most books.
You might want to call 1-800-456-9887, and
order a catalog.
My third suggestion is to wear a sleep mask
over your eyes. Many people can't sleep deeply
unless their bedroom is totally dark. I'm one
of those. My sleep mask is a Sleepmaster.
I forget where I bought it. But if you do a
Search on Sleepmaster sleep masks, you'll find a number of sources that sell it. There
are lots of good sleep masks on the market.
Tools For Wellness also sells two separate masks.
My final suggestion, Minnie, is what your
intuition has already suggested to you: that
you give melatonin another try. I recommend
an herbal sleep supplement that is made by
Swanson Vitamins. It's called Sleep Esssentials, costs just $4.29 for 120 capsules, and contains 3 mg of melatonin,
as well as Chamomile, hops flower, and
passionflower. Give it, or a similar good
product, a try for 3 or 4 months. Swansons's
website is:www.swansonvitamins.com
Their phone # is 1-800-437-4148.
Let us know, Minnie, if you decide to follow
up on any of these suggestions, and whether
they help you to fall deeply asleep. I will
keep you in my prayers. Sweet dreams!
Blessings,
Owen
