I'm hoping someone out there has some input on what this may be. For the past year my skin has become painfully dry. I have had dry skin all my life but it was never this bad. On my face it is flaky and my t-zone area gets shiny. My hands & feet have cracks in them but I can keep them from worsening using vaseline at night. My arms & legs are the worst & most painful, the skin hurts so bad I can barely walk after getting out of the shower, before putting lotion on. Lotion helps keep the pain at bay during the day but the skin still looks dry & scaly after the lotion has been absorbed.
The main problem I have is that no matter what I do, my skin is becoming more scaly, wrinkly & painful whenever I do not have lotion on. When I first noticed it, I made sure I took the daily dose of EFA's, Vit E, Cod Liver Oil & cook most meals with olive oil, fearing there was a nutritional deficiency. I also cut my alchol & coffee intake signficantly and upped the water as per "The Water Cure " requirements but nothing has helped. I fear I may be paranoid at this point because no matter what I do the problem stays the same and may even be getting worse. The dermatogist thinks I just have bad dry skin and told me to use Lubriderm lotion daily. No help. My regular doctor was the one who referred me to a dematologist. No additional input on the problem.
Does anyone know of a diagnose or treatment for SEVERLY dry skin? Daily life is becoming unbearable having to deal with this pain all over my body. Thanks, in advance!
