More people die from heart disease than any other thing except maybe doctors. Moderate comsumption of moderate amounts of red wine in many studies found reduces the risk of having a heart attack. A google search revealed 1,610,000 hits for the words "red wine prevents heart attacks. "(0.17 seconds) Maybe a million of those pages are push Science pieces by the alcohol industry but if just a few solid studies reveal a benefit for drinking moderate amounts of alcohol to prevent a second heart attack and you had a heart attack, would you consider drinking a glass of wine a day to help prevent you from dying? "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink."
For many millions who might attempt to drink one glass of a wine each day to prevent a heart attack...one glass turns to two...and two turns to three or a Liter of Vodka that may kill them before a heart attack would but each of us responds to anything chemical in different ways. I believe we are all huge chemical batteries that are affected by all kinds of substances in different ways. What is toxic and deadly to you may save my life. This is why I said anything about this topic.
Could it be that the formaldehyde that our body creates when drinking a glass of wine thins our blood and allows more oxygen to travel to our heart, therefore preventing a heart attack? Some studies tend to support the notion that there are blood thinning qualities in red wine. Perhaps alcohol created formaldehyde in our body, like any other chemical we put in our bodies will have a very different effect on me then it will on you? If we develop an allergic reaction to formaldehyde then it may even kill us. If we do not have an allergic reaction to red wine then maybe, if we are at risk for having a heart attack, red wine may prevent a deadly heart attack. Some people drink a glass of red wine for their heart and that is all they will drink a day but there are some who would call that alcoholism.
In any case, I am not advocating drinking alcohol but what is true for you may not be true for me. I think the most important thing to do when addressing health issues is to do the research for yourself and listen to your body. If you have allergic reactions to alcohol then by no means should you drink any amount of alcohol. The same is true about peanuts, milk, bread, and anything else we consume. If you are not in touch with what your body needs then by no means would I ever suggest that anyone drink alcohol for anything.
On a lighter note, I know if I put a little rubbing alcohol in the carburetor of a lawnmower that will not start, nine times out of ten, it will start right up...and if that doesn't make it start then the connection to the spark plug is loose. If reconnecting the spark plug wire and putting rubbing alcohol in the carb doen't work, it is time to take it to the repairman. If someone had tried the alcohol on their lawnmower first they might have saved a trip to the repairman. I don't know about you, but if I have a heart attack, I am probably going to go to an emergency room and let them save my life. I know our hearts are a lot more complicated then a lawnmower but if your lawnmower will not start, you might want to give it try.
