...Could your mother-in-law have a problem with adrenal fatigue?

It's a real knotty problem to untie, but I believe that removal of sugars/starches, and excitotoxins (MSG, aspartame, Splenda, and others) is a good beginning; and that adding seaweeds, Celtic grey Sea Salt , and virgin coconut oil, can be disguised. :)

(For example; coconut oil, a few drops of lemon juice, and some Sea Salt taste very much like butter, and can be colored with a drop or two of carrot juice. This mixture might be slowly introduced, combined with butter, at first.)

Seaweeds are just wonderful, boosting the vital electrolyte balance, among many other good things. Kelp goes unnoticed when crumbled and mixed into the finished stew as part of the saltiness.

Non-dairy proteins are said to be important in treating adrenal fatigue. With veggies, they make satisfying meals. Also check out beans (sprouted?), and nuts (not peanuts) as sources of proteins and essential fatty acids.

A very few drops of stevia mix well with other flavors when sweetness is desired. And stevia is GOOD for both hypoglycemia and diabetes, both of which you'll find discussed on the Adrenal Fatigue forum.

Some sprouted grains make very good breads, which are great substitutes for the white flour kind. One bakery in our area sells only bread from sprouted grains.

You say this lady has always been a fine talker, etc. That rings the bell in my head of s-t-r-e-s-s, a major cause of adrenal fatigue. I'd only mess up the explanation of the mechanism, so I won't try, but it somehow leads to a tiring of the adrenal glands, and their failure to produce properly.

If this strikes a chord with you, please check out the posts of JamesG. He turned me on to two articles that are very enlightening, and he suggested the book "Adrenal Fatigue", by Dr. Wilson.

I have two elderly parents who are very, very stubborn, and crotchety with each other, to boot. It breaks my heart that they won't even live near us. The only thing we can do is visit from time to time, and suggest or provide alternatives. Today, their shopping included six boxes of Tic Tac's!

I said nothing. (Sigh.)

My very best to you and your family. I send you energy.
