I agree, we no longer have a microwave and don't use one. I think microwaved food is even worse than fried food!
Boiling water on the stove is easy enough, you put it on, go do something else for a minute (like check curezone.com) and then come back and it's boiling and ready to use.
However, there is a handy thing you can buy, I have heard it called a boiling pot, electric tea kettle, and perhaps a carafe. It is something that plugs into the wall, you put water in it, press a button, and a minute or two later it starts to boil , the button is released. You don't have to watch it like you do a pot and it is VERY quick! These are popular in europe. You can use them in other rooms besides the kitchen, too. Also can be used at work in your office or the break room (depending on your job of course). Make sure nobody puts coffee in it or it will always taste funky after that! ha ha!
We have used a toaster oven my whole life, even as kids we used it. We realized it was hot and that we had to use it carefully but it really wasn't a big deal. It's easy to heat things either on the stovetop or in the toaster oven or regular oven. And if you miss popcorn, you can buy a hot air popcorn popper, I bought one at a thrift store for $5 even though I rarely eat popcorn.
It's a mental adjustment but once you get used to it you'll be glad you gave up the microwave! Like I said, no big deal!
