Wrenn,

"Also meat is not an efficient way
because of the acidosis it causes."

This doesn't make sense. Not one food causes acidosis. Depends on the context....a moderate amount of meat (ideally organic, pasture raised) alongside a mineral rich diet and generally healthy lifestyle is fine. Meat itself is rich in minerals like zinc (as has been pointed out), iron and copper. We need some acids foods in our diet anyway. How meat is prepared can make it a lot easier on the digestion.
(see http://www.westonaprice.org)

Different diets suit different people....eg depends where one lives in the world. In less sunnier climates, people will need animal products for the vitamin D. Personally I am more drawn to veggie foods like beans and nuts than meat (for moral reasons too) but I know I need animal foods in my diet. I know raw doesn't suit me at all. I find raw foods harder to digest than meat! I tried being vegan and my health deteriorated. Though I agree vegan can be done bad or good.

Proteins like meat which contain all the essential amino acids work well in regard to balancing blood Sugar and stopping cravings so is not comparable at all with Sugar at all in that respect. That's certainly my experience. This is especially important if you have adrenal problems. Apart from the fact that Sugar has absolutely no health benefits whatsoever! Though it does taste nice ;-)

Wheat bran isn't really a great source of zinc as it contains phytic acid which inhibits the absorption of zinc (and other minerals).

Anne :-)
