when I first stopped all dairy many years ago,
It took me a good 6 months of cold -like symptoms and hacking up
old mucus etc.
this is a good thing actually ,
if the mucus is thick ,
you might find relief and help
in cinnamin steam sinus openers
(in a pot simmering water add cinnamin)
and then remove from stove,
place towel over head and pot and breath relaxedly for
15 minutes several times a day .
i found that lobelia extract and skunk cabbage extract
helped greatly ,
as long as no thin running mucus is in evidence.

Lobelia is a great expectorant
and skunk cabbage is anti spasmatic
I am very sensitive to many things,
I NEVER take anything in dosages suggested!
I would suggest you perhaps get the combo as I did,
and just add a few drops in a drink (not dropperfuls!)
at various times through out the day .
alter body positions to allow mucus to drain better ,
and of course you know water is the best expectorant there is.
the reason for adding the skunk cabbage is
similar to umm the cheracol d cough pharma medicines lines
in which an expectorant and an antispamotic
helped to thin and cough up old phlem /mucous,
and then give your lungs a break from coughing.
if you have reason to read up about dairy etc might look at
the post below that i replied to a person
titled dairy is toxic.
by the way , Pau d' Arco herb is a natural antibiotic!!
if you feel the need 8)

I gave you resources at the same place for convenience sake for you .
normally I get most of my stuff from:
http://www.mountainroseherbs.com
or
http://wildroots.com
hope thses things are of help to you ,
and congrats ! on your PHD!
and esp the interest in natural means to help your patients !!
We need more doctors that are willing to find
natural and far cheaper ways to help HEAL patients
rather than treat symptoms.
Best of love to you
as you progress in your life journey.
btw fantastic recipes on the blog titled
*In The Raw* by Lapis
and if look on the vegetarian forum ,
I just posted a reply to a question
titled *why no chicken ?*
that you might find helpful as well.
have a great week ,
