Hi Lauren -
Wow! - that's a lot of animal protein in a day. I think it's *maybe* ok if you are doing this for short-term (a few weeks) therapeutic reasons, such as stabilizing blood sugar. But not a good idea as a long-term eating lifestyle -- will really congest your liver/gallbladder, kidneys, colon and create all kinds of problems in your system.
There is a huge debate about how much protein we need and even if we need it at all. Andreas Moritz, for example, makes some very good arguments about humans not needing protein in their diets at all. (Do search on his forum for more on this.)
Atkins on the other hand, as we all know advocates huge amounts of animal protein.
Whenever there are such extreme differences of opinion, I usually believe "the truth" lies some where in the middle.
I was a vegetarian for many years and also a vegan for a couple of years. I was very weak and sick the whole time - although, admittedly I was not eating well at that time compared to what I learned later.
I had many natural healthcare practitioners tell me to eat animal protein, but i refused for spiritual reasons at that time. Finally after years of this, when a naturopath told me I would never get better unless I started eating animal protein 3x a day according to the Dr. Abravenal Body Type diet (similar to what you may be talking about), I was so sick and tired of being sick and tired, I did it.
I ate animal protein at least 3x a day for a couple of years after that and really regained my health and energy -- and also gradually severely clogged up an already congested liver/gb and got really sick and tired again.
I had to do major cleansing, lv/gb flushes, etc. to get this reversed -- and continue to work on this.
Now I only eat animal protein about 1-3 times a week and there are many weeks I don't have it at all.
Knowing what I know now about how to balance blood sugar and eat better in general, if I had to do over again I never would have consumed all that animal protein.
So, I guess the bottomline is I think it would be wise to consider other approaches to accomplish what you are trying to accomplish by eating so much animal protein - I guarantee you will regret it in the long run.
I know that "body type" diets are very popular, but I question their validity for long-term benefits. Personally, I think they are more about trying to balance out an imbalanced system and get symptomatic relief. Although this may work short term, if it is not in keeping with sound principles for a healthy eating lifestyle, then they can create an imbalance of a different nature and ultimately cause problems.
Hope that makes sense and helps.
- Kelly
