Yes, it's that "Us versus Them" mentality. It's so much easier to get people to join you when you target a specific group and call them the "enemy". Christianity does it (homosexuals), the Nazis did it (Jews), and George Bush is doing it (Al-Qaeda). Why people can't see through this manipulation technique, I do not know.
