If your Apneas weren't often enough to qualify at that time for CPAP one option might be to keep a journal with your Husband of witnessed Apneas and severity of snoring. Tests have been done to show that one night in a Sleep Lab isn't always enough to get a true and accurate picture of that persons habits. Well no Patient, Dr, Lab or Insurance Co will tolerate 5 nights in a lab to get acclimated. With documentation, History and a little nudging CPAP can be ordered tho you may have to pay for equipment until you can convince Ins Co.

Regardless of how you obtain the machine you MUST have a follow-up test to determine your optimal pressure. There are NO cute little formulas as to pressure requirements (ie: height, weight, age, sex), a Pressure Titration Study needs to be done so Tech can adjust pressure from control room to find your ideal pressure. Of equal importance is the mask. There are Nasal masks, Oral/nasal masks and Nasal pillow type masks. They are Fords and Chevys. It doesn't matter which mask you use. What matters is the fit and comfort. If mask is a poor fit it'll hurt or bug you and in either case you won't wear it. Don't let anyone tell you one is better than another for you.

Good Luck
