Gerson recomended 95-5 rule. 5% of your diet could venture off the straight and narrow. He mentioned stuff like holidays, etc., where one should realx and enjoy. 25% for cruft foods is a bit much.

As far as the cancer returning, one could argue that it was never gone. Since we can not examine the body at the few-cells level, it can never be determined if a cancer has truly been eradicated. The 5-year benchmark has been establised because most cancers will manifest themselves (as a re-occurance) in 5 years or less. Even now, you assume your wife to be cancer free, but the reality may be that your protocol is keeping the cancer well controlled. The cancer may be dormant, if you will. Since one can never know, it is best to maintain a protocol for life (pun intended). Dr. Gerson suggests as much as after a patient completes the 1-2 year aggressive threatment, they go into a less rigorous maintenence program. Also, I consider cancer to be a degerneative disease, and I believe that as the body degenerates, it can not fully recover. Hence, those of us who have had cancer have less than full system capacity, and even if our current cancer has been fully eradicated, we are high risk for other cancers. This is especially true for those who have had chemo or radiation.

In "Alive And Well" one of Dr. Binzel's patients had Breast Cancer four times. Each time her cancer was "gone" she terminated her protocol and it came back. The fourth time, it was unresponsive to Dr. Binzel's therapy and she died.
