Doctor David Williams' newsletter for March, ALTERNATIVES, arrived today.
Most of you know that Williams is a highly-respected alternative health physician. He's one of my few heroes.
The March issue is devoted largely to Breast Cancer -- specifically, how to prevent it. As I was reading the newsletter, one page JUMPED out at me. It was news to me, and it may be news to some of you.
Doctor Williams cites a book called DRESSED TO KILL: THE LINK BETWEEN Breast Cancer AND BRAS, that was written by Sydney Singer and others in 2002. Let me quote Doctor Williams:
"The authors reported that women wearing a bra 24 hours a day, had a 3 out of 4 chance of developing breast cancer."
"Women wearing their bras more than 12 hours a day, but not to bed, had a 1 out of 7 risk."
"Women wearing bras less than 12 hours a day, had a 1 in 152 risk of developing breast cancer."
"And women who rarely or never wore bras, had a 1 out of 168 risk of developing breast cancer."
Why? According to Doctor Williams, "wearing a bra 14 or more hours a day, tends to increase prolactin, a hormone that reduces circulation to the breast. Bras also interfere with the lymphatic drainage of the breast, and their overuse can increase the risk of cancer."
Williams suggests that women remove their bras at least while sleeping. He also describes a simple massage technique (it takes only 6 minutes), that enhances lympahtic drainage from the breast and goes "a long way in helping to prevent breast cancer."
If anyone is interested in that technque, let me know, and I'll post it here on this forum.
If anything I said resonated with you, go to Amazon.com and type in
DRESSED TO KILL in the search box. There are lots of reviews, many of them containing additional facts which are interesting.
Maybe all those young women in the 1960s, had the right idea after all.
Blessings,
Owen
