Hi! I know you are going through a very difficult time right now. My husband (44) has stage IIIA multiple myeloma that was diagnosed during a workup for minor surgery last March. We were both devastated and in shock for many months. He has just recovered from a stem cell trancplant that was done in October, and is complete remission, and is feeling better now than he has in several years. He had been quite fatigued but blamed it on busy schedule, getting older, etc.

He was also on decadron 40 mg cycling per month, but was used as a "conditioning" treatment prior to the transplant. He did not receive any chemo until the transplant. We did consider the thalidomide treatment, but went to Mayo and Cleveland clinics and felt the transplant was the way to go for him.

It sound as if you have gotten the most updated treatment available, which means your MD is on the right track. Just remember that if you do need to start chemo at any time, make sure you ask them about stem cell collection prior. Some of the chemo drugs make it impossible to collect them afterwards (from yourself). Also, are you on Zometa or Aredia for your bones? And be sure you are taking a good dose of calcium every day.

I am planning on having him take several supplements later on; he developed a blood clot after the transplant, and is on a blood thinner that interacts with a lot vitamins, etc. However these are some of the MOST important hat I have read about:

Curcumin, Green tea, Fish Oil, Garlic, Essiac, and Vitamin C. Please research these and check with your oncologist before starting these as they do interact with some medicines. However, most oncolgists and any traditional MD's are not very supportive of supplementation!

A couple of websites: www.multiplemyeloma.org; and myeloma.org will give you a lot of info on tradtiional medicine info including clinical trials, and info on latest research. Also, www.lef.org is for Life Extension Foundation, and they have volumes of info on cancer; they have oncologist on staff that can answer questions and guide you on supplements, tradional care for free if you join. We have not taken advantage of that service yet, but plan to soon.
Also, if you look for Dr Matthias Rath on a search engine, you will find info on a fairly simple regimen with Vit. C, Lysine and green tea.

Of course, the cleansing regimens on curezone are very helpful, too.

I hope this is helpful to to you and your wife! It is hard to remain hopeful with such a scary prognosis, but there are many people I have met through support groups who have survived 10 years or more.

I am working full time now and can't get to the computer a lot, but please write back if you feel up to it, and let us know how you are doing!

Take care!
