I would hold off on Amalgam removal and detoxing your body until AFTER you have weaned your baby. Mercury (esp methyl mercury, its bioactive form) does cross placental barriers, and into milk. For this reason it is recommended that women who are pregnant of planning to conceive do NOT undergo any weight loss regimens, as the fat breakdown will just release toxins into the blood stream. Wait until you have delivered or weaned (whichever is later). The nursing infant is the one at the top of the food chain.
An excellent resource is Dr Sandra Steinbraber's (PhD) book, HAVING FAITH: An Ecologist Looks Toward Motherhood.
Further information for families small children interested in their environmental health is sthe Children's Health Environmental Coalition (www.checnet.org). Subscribe to either/both the FirstSteps (monthly covers from conception until child is 24 mos) or Health eNews (twice a month) for general interest.
They also have a new book called HOUSEHOLD DETECTIVE: Protecting Your Children from Toxins at Home. It has chapters on cleaning products, food, water, artmaterials, toys & playareas, pesticides, pet care, preconception planning, building/remodeling materials.
Whatever your Amalgams have done to you aren't going to get worse over the course of your developing or nursing baby, but the damage that could be done by having them removed to his/her developing brain and nervous system are far reaching, and permanent.
Breastfeed now, remove Amalgams later.
Hope
