Hello--my first post here--I'm trying to figure out WHAT is causing the persistent itching on my hips and adjacent areas, as well as on the back of my head.
Any experts know--could this be a fungal thing? I do itch in the usual-suspect areas that I've read about--under the "overhanging" parts of my overweight self. Also I have rash under abdominal fold that burns if irritated; and I had a round patch of what must be "ringworm" on inside thigh, which responded to a topical antifungal. I believe all these must be candida or some other fungal thing?
A year ago, my itchy hips DID develop a rash that looked VERY much like Web pictures of candida. But the itching did not correspond exactly to the rash location--the itching extended well forward of, behind, and below the rash. And everything I read about candida on the Web did not mention itching on the HIPS. Nor on the back of the head.
The rash cleared up completely on its own and never reappeared. BUT THE HIPS STILL ITCH!! It gets better and worse, seems worse with cold dry weather. Same deal with the back of my head, though no one I've asked has seen any kind of rash there.
The head and hips are driving me slightly crazy. Can anyone help? Is it POSSIBLE or LIKELY for a fungus to cause itching in these two places even with no rash? Also, can it cause semi-numbness in the same areas that itch??
I should say I have other problems--possible multiple sclerosis (MS). Various little specific spots on my face, legs, and hands have been itchy in the past, but I am pretty sure these are "nerve" itches related to whatever neurological disease I have. At first I thought the hip was the same thing, but then it spread, moved to the other hip, and at one point had that rash.
I haven't talked to my GP about this itching yet because I've only ever seen him twice and have been preoccupied with the neurology stuff. Also, the neurologist has pegged me as a hypochondriac and thus I'm afraid to bring up "something new."
But I'm really getting tired of this itching on my hips and back of head and would like to hear opinions: could this be fungal? Any suggestions on getting rid of the itch? (lose weight, yeah... what else works?)
Thanks for reading my long-winded post, and thanks for any advice!
Nancy
