Thanks a ton, Anne. I did walk into superdrugs and asked but the pharmacists there asked me to have Actimel ( the yoghurt drink) or acidophilius-- helpful but not quite...

I bought Asda Cider vinegar at just 79 pence but I doubt its the real McCoy. Maybe will go to Holland and Barrets-- I saw their Cider Vinegar at about 3.5 pounds or so...
